Flowers

Rules:
• Entries accepted Friday, September 20, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Walker County Ag Center.

• Entries may be removed on Saturday, September 21 between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Entries not
picked up will be discarded. First, Second, and Third Place ribbons will be awarded.

• Entries will be judged prior to the opening of the festival on September 21 from 8-9am.

• Flower and Garden is for amateur gardeners only. Amateur: Any person who is involved in
gardening or floriculture for pleasure only. This person does not derive income from his or
her gardening or floriculture hobby or business.

• Flower, Herb, Container Grown Plants and Combination Planting entries must be grown by
the exhibitor for at least 45 days. Flowering plants must be in bloom.

• Container Grown Plants and Combination Plantings must be in a container that does not
exceed 12” in any direction. Can be a dish garden, Planter, Terrariums or Fairy Garden, etc.

• Rose and Perennial entries must be grown on your own property for at least 1 year.

• Shrubs and Trees – Cut specimen of 1 stem only. Stem not to exceed 30 inches.

• Exhibits will be tagged when they are brought in. All specimens should be correctly labeled
by the exhibitor with botanical name of plant with common name (e.g., Rudbeckia –
Black-eyed Susan).

• Exhibitor must provide his or her own bud vase container. NO VASES WILL BE
PROVIDED. The utmost care will be taken in displaying entries, however the WCAF and
associates are not responsible for mishaps or damages. A small piece of clear bubble wrap
will be available to the exhibitor and may be wedged inconspicuously in the neck of the vase
to assure the specimen stands straight.

• Entries must be clean, no dead foliage and be disease and pest free.

• No poisonous or endangered species will be accepted.

• No silk or artificial flowers or foliage will be permitted.

• Perennial entries should consist of at least 1 stem and have at least 1 bloom. A bloom must
be 1⁄4 of the way open (a bud is not a bloom).

• Herbs should have 1 stem.

• Annuals should have 1 flowering stem with foliage per vase with foliage below the waterline
removed.

• Foliage category is one stem. No blooms.

• Cut Roses should have 5 leaves per stem.

• All foliage should be removed below the waterline (exception will be the foliage category).

• Fresh plant material may not be treated in any manner and must be washed with water.
